i'm busy baking saint nicholas cookies to take for a special 'holiday lesson' at isaiah's first grade class. the schools try to avoid trouble by celebrating everything, and so i get the happy job of representing for one of my favorites. i'm reading the lovely tale titled 'the baker's dozen: a saint nicholas tale' retold by aaron shepard, and of course, i'm bringing some cookies in the image of good old st. nick. here is picture from this wonderful book.
here is a stained glass window depicting one of my favorite stories about the origin of gift-giving in the life of the saint--his throwing of bags of gold through a poor man's window so his three daughters would have dowry's for marriage and not be sold as servants.
