So I got the page proofs for Faith as a Way of Life last week. It is odd to read something I havn't looked at in 6 months. I still like it (relief) but have this distancing feeling that comes from objectifying my ideas. In the process of becoming a book, they kind of take on a identity of their own and can then 'speak' back to me. I read it and find my self agreeing or arguing with it, and it is me! Odd experience, this authorship process. I have three weeks to read through the proofs and create an index. Thankfully, Sven Ensminger, a wonderful and talented student who works at the Center with me, will do the index. I've done it on two books and didn't love it. But a good index is a great tool, and I wish I'd done a better one on my Public Work, Public Worship book.
Now copies go out for endorsements and Miroslav gets a copy to write the forward. Sure hope that goes well--it is the first nerve-wracking process of wider judgment on a book. And it helps a lot on sales if the process goes well. More on that soon.
Anon,
Chris
