Paper grading blues
I know, I know. My students ARE inspiring and yet the pile before me is big. Blues is a way of singing sorrow in the context of hope, so I'll take that with me through the pile. And keep in mind that this sorrow is a privilege.

And it's not always the size of the pile that's intimidating. Sometimes there's the great unwrapping of surprisingly good work, and, all too often, there's the mourning of opportunities missed or potential unfulfilled. But hope, always hope.
Not sure if I've shared before that I grade with green pen "for growth." A reminder to me and my students that the focus is on growth/improvement/moving forward. At least it works for some high schoolers...
Peace, friend...
